My Thirteen Commandments
The Commandments are a pop art, 3dimensional, mixed media, collage adaptation of the original Ten Commandments. Meant to reveal our need for understand historical and currents events that are a part of our society in a more practical list of commandments for the world-of-today.
They reveal our need for truth and understanding through the lens of unique and original Thirteen Commandments. Historical and current events combine to reveal the unspoken truths we must embrace for the sake of ours and future generations. Intended to capture both positive and negative aspects of humanity, this artistically theological commentary provokes the viewer to address serious issues of our time such as sex trafficking, discrimination, child abuse, genocide, corporate greed, excessive materialism, endangered wildlife and environmental concerns while also celebrating the human spirit with fun loving, lighthearted images that make one smile and are nostalgic reminders of the many joys life has to offer.
At the outset, it demonstrates and reminds us with the first commandment, that it is our responsibility to help those who are weak, disabled or less fortunate than ourselves and in need of any kind of support from life sustaining to the simple gesture of holding the door open for another person. These new and innovative commandments have at their heart the belief that no living being is more or less deserving of life than another, and all should be treated equally and with respect. Hence the first commandment: Thou Shall Honor the Golden Rule – a pay it forward message, and the second commandment Thou Shalt not Kill – the only original commandment that was kept. This collection is still in progress and planning to debut it with it's installation as a cohesive exhibition in 2014 - 15.
